Monument to Humanity has nothing to do with Armenia-Turkey relations – Turkish FM

The Monument to Humanity located in the Turkish town of Kars has nothing to do with Armenia-Turkey relations, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said.

The statement came after Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdoghan's recent call for tearing down the monument which he characterized 'freak'.

"The monument does not conform to the architectural standards of Kars. It reflects no single element of architecture," FM Davutoglu said, supporting Erdoghan's call.

Speaking to journalists in Kars, the Turkish foreign minister made the following statement on Armenia-Turkey rapprochement: We are supporters of peace and seek for the normalization of Armenia-Turkey ties. This should not naturally be a unilateral process. Armenia too has to make certain steps in that direction. All that has nothing to do with the monuments. It is necessary to establish peace in the Caucasus. And to achieve that, it is necessary to normalize the relationship between Armenia and Azerbaijan."
