Representatives of the Armenian community in Nikopol, Ukraine, have dismissed reports about clashes between Armenians and Ukrainians that allegedly took place on ethnic grounds.

Speaking to Analitika.at.ua website, Tigran Sargsyan, a representative of the Armenian community in Nikopol, dismissed those media reports as untrue.

Earlier, some local media outlets had reported that a group of Ukrainian youth in Nikopol in Dnepropetrovsk region, had attacked vendor kiosks owned by Armenians and destroyed a khachkar (cross stone) symbolizing the friendship between Armenia and Ukraine.

The clashes, according to media reports, had followed the killing of two locals by Armenians.

Sargsyan also said that the local police have already arrested four people suspected of participation in the vandalizing of the monument.

The Armenian community is already taking steps to restore the monument, Sargsyan added.
