Armenia cooperates with Poland to neutralize chemical waste
Armenia and Poland will launch a comprehensive joint project this year to neutralize the potential risk of the chemical waste sites in Armenia, the secretary of Armenia's Security Council has said.
Speaking at a press conference today, Arthur Baghdasaryan said that the relevant Armenian-Polish agencies have already signed the necessary document.
"A corresponding document is already signed between the Polish company Echotekh and Armenia's Ministry of Emergency Situations," said he, adding that the activities are planned to start this year.
Baghdasaryan said that the project will cover not only the Nubarashen pesticide site but also other sites of more risky chemicals in other parts of Armenia.
One of such sites, he said, is located in Lori region in northern Armenia.
Baghdasaryan also said that they will be consistent in their efforts to make sure the activities are implemented duly and properly.
An emergency situation was created in Nubarashen pesticide site in early March 2010 when a bulldozer reportedly dug the area exposing buried chemicals.
Given the area is in a landslide zone, dangerous substances reach settlements in the vicinity.
