The Yerevan Municipality Department of Trade and Services, in collaboration with the heads of districts, is implementing a large-scale program to ban street vending in Yerevan.

The program is aimed at implementing the law aimed at banning the sale of low quality and expired products in order to prevent the spread of the diseases caused by food poisoning, the press service of Yerevan Municipality said.

Under the legislation, open-air vending is allowed only for the sale of flowers, plant layers, Christmas trees, as well as ice creams and drinks, so the demand to ban street trade is fully consistent with the demands of the law, says the municipality statement.

"Those currently engaged in illegal vending are offered to move to the nearest markets. To promote civilized trade, while trying to avoid social outcry, a program aimed at opening new mini markets is being elaborated. We anticipate both traders and consumers' support in our efforts," the municipality says.
