Mediators to neutralize war threats

The countries acting as brokers in the Karabakh peace deal do not have enough resources for resolving the conflict but they can afford neutralizing the threats of war, according to political analyst Suren Surenyants.

"Those countries are capable of neutralizing war threats," he told a news conference on Monday.

"As long as there is no final document on conflict settlement, the chances that the war may resume are there," Surenyants said.
Speaking of further developments, he ruled out any possibility of reaching a milestone or signing any document on Karabakh.

Since both Azerbaijan and Armenia are going to face political elections, he said they will hardly take any steps to settle the conflict.
He also noted that the OSCE-proposed format for conflict settlement is deemed as the only acceptable format by all geopolitical centers.
In that connection he added that ex-President Levon Ter-Petrosyan shares Serzh Sargsyan's stance on the issue.

As for Russia, he said the country is quite active in its efforts although it lacks resources to provide solution to the problem on its own.
