NGOs vs Prosecutor General's Office – hearing scheduled for Tuesday

A court in Yerevan will continue today the hearing of a claim filed by the presidents of several non-governmental organizations against the Prosecutor General's Office.

The claimants - Arman Danielyan (Civil Society Institute), Avetik Ishkhanyan (Helsinki Committee of Armenia), Arthur Sakunts (Helsinki Citizens' Assembly of Vanadzor) – want the court to order that a criminal case be launched against a deputy prosecutor general and the chief of the Nubarashen Penitentiary.

When visiting the Nubarashen Penitentiary on September 2, 2010, the NGO presidents had found out that Armenian citizen Sargis Poghosyan had been illegally held in detention between August 5 and September 1.
