Latvia supports Karabakh peace process within Minsk Group format
Latvia expresses full support of the peace talks within the Minsk Group format and does not seek to intervene in the process, Janis Zlamets, Head of Latvian Foreign Ministry's Department on Bilateral Relations, has said.
Answering Armenian journalists' questions on the misconceptions in Latvian and Azerbaijani presidents' joint statement on the Karabakh conflict, the Latvian diplomat said that his country's stance fully coincided with the European Union's position, particularly with the statements made by EU President Herman van Rumpoy and High Representative for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. He said those official had stated many times that the conflict should be settled based on the UN Charter and the principles of non-use of force, territorial integrity and people's right to self-determinations.
Zlamets also said his country had joined the OSCE Foreign Ministers' Helsinki and Athens statements, as well as the Astana declaration.
