Armenian party leader addresses political prisoners' problem at rally
At a rally on January 19, the leader of the People's Party, Tigran Karapetyan, addressed, among other things, the problem of political prisoners in Armenia.
"I have your approval as my people," he said, adding that the people's support would enable him to take bolder steps in future.
Complaining about the authorities' conduct, Karapetyan also spoke of the municipality's recent decision to ban street vending.
"Don't be so harsh with street vendors," he said.
The meeting of the People's party set to take place outside Matenadaran started about an hour later than planned.
The crowd met the party's leader with applauses and slogans calling for justice.
As Karapetyan, said, they had come together to say no to the authorities.
He said his party proposed 20 slogans on the existing problems in Armenia and expected the authorities to fulfill their demands until February 28. He added that they will call for an extraordinary presidential election should the authorities fail to meet the specified deadline.
ALM TV company run by Karapetyan will not be airing broadcasts after January 20.
