Protocols call for scientific investigation into genocide?
The protocols between Armenia and Turkey call for a scientific and impartial investigation into the Armenian Genocide, Chairman of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Mehmet Ali Shahin has said, the Turkish daily Milliyet reported.
"The parliaments of many countries worldwide have adopted resolutions on the 1915 events," he told a news conference in Canada after a meeting with the speaker of the Canadian Senate, Noel Kinsella.
"Canada is the only country supporting such decision on its government's level. However, Steven Harper's statements on the issue contain some nuances which we characterize as the right step in that direction. We are hopeful that no problems will occur in April," the Turkish official said, adding that there is a "conflict of memories" between the Armenian and Turkish nations.
"We are not trying to impose our memories on anyone, and nobody has the right to impose his memories on us. What we expect of Canadian officials is an impartial approach to the issue," he added.
