Azerbaijan seeks to resume the sub-committee dealing with Nagorno Karabakh, PACE President Mevlut Chavushoglu has said.

"In 2005, PACE adopted Resolution 1416 on Karabakh. Our objective is to implement it within the sub-committee format," he told a Strasburg news conference organized ahead of the PACE winter session.

He said the subcommittee which was suspended after its president's death had always worked in an open manner.

"Last month I met with members of both countries' delegations. Ever since, we have been meeting regularly at sessions. At the last meeting we agreed to extend the delegation, involving in it an opposition MP. We decided to submit the issue to the bureau. The question will be discussed at the plenary session on Friday. The bureau will adopt a decision on resuming the activities of the sub-committee and electing a chairperson," Chavushoglu said.

The PACE President regretted to note that certain politicians in Armenia considered the issue to be his personal project, the Azerbaijani news agency APA reported.

"That's a wrong idea. I clarified the issue during my visit to Armenia. It's not a personal project. It's my obligation as the PACE President," Chavushoglu added.
