Aznavour blackmails Sarkozy ahead of elections – Turkish media

World-renowned chansonnier Charles Aznavour has started blackmailing French President Nicolas Sarkozy ahead of the presidential elections in France, the Turkish media report, referring to Aznavour's recent interview with the French publication Le Dauphine.

It came after the recent WikiLeaks disclousre of the French leader's promise to Turkey to prevent his country's Senate to pass the law penalizing the Armenian Genocide.

Talking to the publication, Aznavour, who is also Armenia's ambassador to Switzerland, said Sarkozy's promises to the Turkish officials became known to the Armenians of France two month ago, following the publication of the whistle-blowing website.

Aznavօur said such step demonstrated the French leader's contemptuous attitude to the promises he gave to French-Armenians. Stressing that the Armenian community of France is much bigger than the Turkish community, the great chansonnier called Sarkozy and French politicians' attention to the fact that they might lose Armenian voters' support in the 2012 election.

He stressed in the meantime that by this kind of statement he was putting his life at stake.

"I have already lived my life and don't have enough time to live to risk anything," he added.
