Vendors protest outside government building

Hundreds of fair vendors have gathered outside the government building to voice their protest against the increase of customs duties.

Whistling and chanting slogans, the protesters complain that the Customs Service has increased per kilogram duties from $3.8 to $8.
Government officials told the protesters that the customs duties were increased by transporting companies, and the cabinet is now trying to figure out to what extent such policy is justified. The protesters have been promised to get an answer by 5:00 pm.

"This will lead to double increase of prices. The consignments are now at the customs check point. We have no more products, and yet cannot get what we are expected to get," they told Tert.am.

"A big revolution is in store for Armenia. People's patience is wearing thin," the protesters were saying angrily.

The police have surrounded the entrance of the government building, preventing the crowd from moving forward.

The demonstrators threaten they will head towards the United States or French Embassy to seek asylum in those countries if the government fails to answer them within 30 minutes.
