The opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) has submitted to the Mayor's Office a notice on its plans to hold a rally on Freedom Square on February 18, ANC activist Tigran Arakelyan told Tert.am.

"This morning, we notified the Mayor's Office of our plans to hold a rally on February 18. After the rally, we are also planning to organize a march which will start and finish on Freedom Square," he said.

Speaking of the municipality's decision to allow cultural events on the site from February 15 to March 10, the oppositionist said such decision was illegal as under the law on Conducting Meetings, Assemblies, Rallies and Demonstrations, a notice to the municipality has to be submitted no earlier than 20 days before the planned date of an event.

"Their illegal permission to give the area to others for an entire month could serve as grounds for rejecting our claim," Arakelyan said.
