Court receives motion to arrest Ashot Yeghiazaryan in absentia
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has filed a motion with court for a permission to arrest State Duma MP Ashot Yeghiazaryan in absentia, the Russian Investigative Committee's official website reported.
This comes after the court ruling to impose a lien on Ashot Yeghizaryan's business center Daev Plaza.
The court had earlier ruled to confiscate the company's assets, as well as the multi-functional trade complex Europark and two land areas belonging to the MP.
Ashot Yegiazaryan is accused of embezzling large sums and is currently in the United States with his family.
On November 3, the State Duma passed a decision to strip Yeghiazaryan off immunity. A criminal case under Section 4, Article 159 of the Russian Criminal Code was filed four days later.
Yeghiazaryan lawyer claims his defendant does not avoid prosecution but prefers to take part in investigative operations in the United States.
