Egyptian protests not to set precedent for Armenia - Sharmazanov
The current unrest in Egypt cannot set a precedent for Armenian, Edward Sharmazanov, spokesman of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), told a news conference on Monday.
"There is certain dissatisfaction in Armenia, but there are no preconditions for a social unrest. The Armenian authorities were resolute enough in implementing the post-crisis program, as can be seen by their efforts to combat corruption and conduct open work with the media. Never before were our authorities so open. While certain people need shocks, we need a strong Armenia," he said.
Speaking of President Serzh Sargsyan's recent interview with the Russian radio station Echo Moskvy, Sharmazanov said that the Armenian leader had once again reiterated Armenia's firm stance on Karabakh.
"The only right way is to enable people to exercise their right to self-determination. It means to either recognize the 1991 referendum or to conduct a new voting. A good precedent for Karabakh is Southern Sudan which proved that the triumphant race for the right to self-determination continues," he added.
