Why does public need stock exchange markets? – expert
It's up to the public in each country to decide whether or not it needs a stock exchange; it's not an issue to be considered by individuals or groups, General Director of NASDAQ OMX Group Armen Melikyan told a news conference on Tuesday.
He said operating stock exchanges is important in terms of raising public awareness of different transactions on the market.
"Stock exchanges are responsible for informing the public whether the transactions concluded are fake or speculative, whether they pursued monopolistic goals etc... But for stock exchange markets, the society might be unaware of a lot of transactions. You could wake up one morning and find outs all of a sudden that a certain individual has become the owner of a strategically important institution," he said.
