Venice to host exhibition dedicated to 500th anniversary of Armenian printing art

A ceremony dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Armenian printing art will be organized in Venice, Austria upon the initiative of the Armenian Ministry of Culture and the institution of urban museums of Venice.

Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan who is currently on a visit to Austria met Monday with the head of the institution, Walter Hartsarich, to sign an agreement on organizing exhibitions in the Austrian capital.

The exhibitions dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the printing of the first Armenian book in Venice, will be organized in the best-known museums on San Marino Square.

The parties expressed great satisfaction on starting a new collaboration and expressed their commitment to organize the event on the highest level.

The agreement signing ceremony was attended by the deputy chief of the presidential staff, Vigen Sargsyan, Armenian Ambassador to Italy Ruben Karapetyan, as well as exhibition curators Poghos Gabriela Uluhojyan, Levon Zekiyan and Vardan Karapetyan, the press service of the Ministry of Culture reported.

Tuesday morning, the mayor of Venice, Giorgio Orsoni, received the official Armenian delegation and the curators. The parties discussed possibilities of a large-scale collaboration within the exhibition frameworks, focusing particularly on selecting premises for the exhibition and advertising the event. They also considered the possibility of organizing a concert of Armenian spiritual music in the town's cathedral.

Minister Poghosyan invited the Venice mayor to Armenia and proposed starting negotiations over declaring Yerevan and Venice sister towns in 2012.
