Young musicians taking part in presidential competition

The House-Museum of the famous Armenian composer Aram Khachatryan hosted the first draw of youth contenders of the 2010 presidential prize for best “Instrument Performance” nomination in classical music.

The young musicians performed 20-minute-long pieces on the piano, oboe and flute.

“We have 10 participants; seven for the piano, one for the flute and one for the oboe and the string quartet. But I was just informed that the oboist will not take part, so we will have nine participants,” said Aida Khachikyan from the presidential administration, who is in charge of the coordination of the competition.

The final of the competition will take place at 4pm on March 27 at the Komitas Chamber Music Hall in Yerevan.

The winners, whose names will be known on May 30, will receive certificates at the presidential residence, a medal and a prize sum worth $2500.
