Street talk illusion of good movies - actor

The movie industry in Armenia seems monopolized as directors invite only the actors from their inner circle to play in their movies, a renowned Armenian actor says.

"I'm considered one of the best actors in Armenia, but I only make films because the industry seems to be somewhat monopolized nowadays," actor and film director Murad Janibekyan told Tert.am.

He said he has been invited to star in Armenian soap operas for many times but has turned down the offers.

"I have rejected them, proposing my preconditions. First, our soap operas are not the kind of films in which I can play. With street talk, they create an illusion of good movies. What they present could be easily considered radio staging," he added.

Janibekyan who is the first actor in Armenia to shoot and star in the film Hamlet and has won the Best Actor and Best Director titles in New York and Los Angeles.

"It's the dream of any actor and director to play and stage Shakespare's works because Shakespeare is the writer of all times," he said, adding that he didn't consider himself a prominent director.
