Yerevan will be properly represented in Geneva Book Fair

Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan received on Monday the delegation of the Geneva Book Fair and discussed issues related to Armenia’s participation in the fair.

According to the Yerevan Municipality, in the fair to take place from April 28 to May 3 Yerevan will be represented as the world book capital of 2012.

Attaching importance to UNESCO’s decision to declare Yerevan as book capital for 2012, Karen Karapetyan said that the occasion will be used to advocate for the use of book, especially given the role of printed books is being left out with the development of internet technologies.

Therefore, there will be numerous and multi-dimensional events, Karapetyan said.

“We will seek also architectural solutions, creating favorable conditions for organizing the selling of books,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of Yerevan’s participation in the Geneva Book Fair, Karapetyan also said that everything will be done for the proper representation of Armenia’s capital at the fair.

The head of the Geneva Book Fair delegation, Patrik Ferlan, expressed gratitude over Armenia’s participation in the fair.

He also said he believed that the steps to be taken can really contribute to raising people’s interest in books given Armenia has a “rich cultural heritage”.
