Market studies reveal increased number of Internet users in Armenia

The Internet in Armenia Winter 2011 report has revealed an increased number of Internet users in the country.

The sixth report prepared jointly by Circle.am and Business 24 indicates tendencies of  market emlargement.

In February 2010, the number of the websites registered in Circle.am (a portal indicating the rating and statistics of the Armenian web resources) increased to 1,118, instead of the 1,000 websites in the same period of 2010. In winter months alone, 308 new websites were opened in the portal.

In February 2011, access to Armenian websites from Armenia was 50.82% , compared to the 45.8% in November or 44.1% in May 2010.

Beeline Company whose market share increased to 44.14% in February remains Armenia's leading Internet provider.

The second company in the list is Orange, which had a 18.85% market share in the same period.

VivaCell MTS with 9.1% share comes next. The expert finds that despite the loss of 1.09% share on the market. the company has potentials for positive dynamics due its continuing investments in the mobile internet sector. The other companies in the top 10 list (Ucom, ADC, Arminco, Cornet-AM, iCON, GNC, Bionet) have a 16.5% share. The providers' data are calculated based on the visits to the websites registered in Circle.am (the IPs of Armenian Internet providers and the organizations having their own IPs are considered).

The comparison of the past 12 months shows intensive tendencies of enlargement, according to the report. While in February 2010, the top 10 providers' visits to Circle.am websites was 91.62%, this year the record increased to 94.59%.
