Word 'genocide' first heard in Istanbul cinema

The word 'genocide' was first heard in an Istanbul cinema house at the premier screening of a film featuring the story of an Armenian man in Turkey.

"Dont Forget Me, Istanbul" was screened on the sidelines of the Istanbul International Film Festival. It tells the stories of people representing different nationalities in the multi-cultural Turkish town. Featuring the story of one family, the author makes attempt to represent the harsh life of an Armenian in Turkey.

The producer of the project is Huseyin Karabey. The chief hero is a Diaspora Armenian musician who comes to Istanbul to find the house of his grandfather, a one time prominent master of ud (percussive musical instrument played in oriental countries). His role is played by French Armenian actor Jackie Nersisyan.

This year's Istanbul International Film Festival program includes five feature films produced by Armenian, Greek, Jewish, Palestinean and Turkish producers, the press service of the Golden Appricot Film Festival reported.

"Dont Forget Me, Istanbul" will be screened in Armenia during the 2011 Golden Apricot Film Festival.
