We need to support Emmy - Public Television chairman

We all need to support Emmy now to encourage her to continue her career as a singer, Chairman of the Armenian Public Television Aleksan Harutyunyan told reporters on Wednesday.

"We have to support Emmy at this moment, because life is going on and she has to continue singing and participating in concerts and contests," he told Tert.am, when asked to comment on the singer's defeat in the Eurovision 2011 semi-final.

Harutyunyan noted that Armenia had traditionally qualified for Eurovision's final and recommended people not to make a tragedy of what happened.

"We need to take a sober approach, as we will participate the next contests. We just need to support Emmy not to leave her feeling alone," he said.

Minister of Education Armen Ashotyan, also attending the news conference, joined Harurtynyan's calls. "I completely agree with you that we really need to support Emmy. Frankly speaking, we'd all go to the square with flags to share her happiness had she won the first place. But what's done cannot be undone. That doesn't mean we should think of a potential hero as someone who always fails," he said.
