Armenian Facebook fans to invite Garcia Marquez to Yerevan

A group of Armenian Facebook fans have launched an online campaign for inviting world-famous writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez to Armenia.

In their online petition, they ask the Armenian users of the popular social networking website to vote in favor of their initiative.

The authors of the campaign promise to ask the Ministry of Culture and other government bodies to send an official letter to Marquez provided the voters' number exceeds 2,000.

They say they would appreciate the prominent writer's in presence Yerevan in 2012, as the town will be the World Book Capital in that period.

As of 30:40 pm, 147 Facebook users have voted in favor of the initiative while 12 users have voted against. Some 57 people appeared not to know anything about Garcia Marquez.
