New education format tested in Armenia
Armenia’s largest mobile phone operator has launched a program that offers an alternative format of education called “Mankapat”.
The program, sponsored by VivaCell-MTS, is an informal format of education that allows children obtaining knowledge without elder’s immediate involvement.
The program was first applied in villages in Indian and is said to have proved effective.
In the framework of the program two computer terminals have already been installed in the walls in the Secondary School of Gorayk village in Armenia’s southern region of Syunik.
Children can use the terminal to enter educational websites and gain knowledge.
The program’s goal is to introduce a new format of education in Armenia – to provide children with unlimited access to the internet in the form of playground in an attempt to reveal their unrealized potential and help them acquire new skills.
The results of the pilot project are due to be reviewed in three months. If proved effective, similar terminals will be installed in 150 communities in Armenia.
