Facebook fans ask minister to invite Marquez to Armenia

A group of Armenian Facebook fans, who recently launched an online campaign to invite Gabriel Garcia Marquez to Armenia, have asked the minister of culture to send an official letter to the writer.

In their online petition, the activists asked the users of the popular social networking site to vote in favor of their initiative.

They promised to ask the Ministry of Culture and other government bodies to send an official letter to Marquez provided the voters' number exceeded 2,000.

"As UNESCO has chosen Yerevan the 2012 World Book Capital, we want Armenia to host the world-famous Columbian writer and  Nobel Prize winner, Gabriel Garcia Marquez," reads the letter.

The group, which has over 2,500 members, has expressed willingness to elaborate an event program and take part in all the organizational activities.
