Ministry of Culture to invite Garcia Marquez to Armenia

The Ministry of Culture is really planning to invite world-famous writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez to Armenia in 2012, says a ministry official.

Gayane Durgaryan, the head of the Culture Ministry's PR Department, told Tert.am that they have already prepared an official letter to the Columbian writer.

"We still have time, so we'll manage to know his answer," she said.

This comes after a group of Armenian Facebook fans launched an online petition, asking the subscribers of the popular social networking site to support their initiative to invite Marquez to Armenia.

In their letter addressed to Minister Hasmik Poghosyan, they said they would appreciate the prominent writer's presence in Yerevan, which has been declared the 2012 World Book Capital by UNESCO.
