UNESCO hosts exhibition of Khachkars, fails to indicate place of origin

While the UNESCO headquarters in Paris was hosting an exhibition on Armenian Khackars (cross stones) on Wednesday, the visitors came to a surprise to discover that notices on their place of origin were missing.

As Jean Eckian, an independent French-Armenian journalist, reported from Paris, only the date was indicated below the photographs featuring the unique masterpieces of Armenian art.

Representatives from Armenian organizations in France and Switzerland voiced their protest in that connection.

In 2010, Azerbaijan vigorously protested UNESCO's decision to declare the Armenian Khackars pieces of non-tangible cultural heritage. It claimed that those samples of architecture are not limited to the Armenian art only.

The exhibition was attended by Armenian Ambassador to France Vigen Chitechyan. World famous singer Charles Aznavour, who is currently serves as Armenia's ambassador to UNESCO, did not attend the event.
