Armenian cellist wins Tchaikovsky Competition

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Eduard Topchyan, the head of the Armenian group that participated in the International Tchaikovsky Competition, spoke about  Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan's victory in the contest.

"It was a hard-to-gain victory indeed," he said.

The Tchaikovsky Competition is the most significant for cellists and opens up ample opportunities for winners – giving concerts in Tokyo, London and Russian cities.

"Due to this competition he has planned concerts, and several well-known agencies are already 'hunting for him. We are already choosing from among them," Topchyan said.

He pointed out the highest level of this year's competition. Narek Hakhnazaryan is the first musician from Armenia to win the competition. Another Armenian, Karine Gevorgyan, who is among the winners, did not represent Armenia.
