Azerbaijani media on Armenia's participation in Eurovision 2012

The Azerbaijani media claim Armenia will take part in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest in Baku.

They reported on Thursday that 22 countries, including Armenia, have already confirmed their participation.

To check the credibility of the reports, Tert.am contacted Gohar Gasparyan, the head of the Eurovision delegation in Armenia, who however, denied the information.

"There's nothing of the kind," she said. "Even the list of the countries, which the Azerbaijani media claim have confirmed their participation, is not real. This kind of things are being done on Baku's initiative in order to spur interest in the contest."

Gasparyan said Armenia's participation in the Eurovision qualifying round is now under discussion.

"The negotiations will last several months. Nothing is definitely known at present," she said, without giving further details.
