Serj Tankian awarded with Armenian Prime Minister's Medal

US-Armenian rock singer and musician Serj Tankian has been awarded with the Medal of Armenia's Prime Minister for his "significant personal investment for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide."

The medal is also given for his "invaluable investment in the development of thee rock music."

According to the government website, at a meeting with Tankian on Friday, PM Tigran Sargsyan highlighted the importance of Tankian's visit to Armenia in the context of developing rock music in the country.

Sargsyan also said that a rock association has been created in Armenia that unites several rock bands.

Sargsyan, who in turn is a rock fan, said that this contributes to making rock more popular in the country.

Further, Tigran Sargsyan spoke about the rock festival titled Rock Against Genocide which is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by Ottoman Turks in 1915.

At the end of the meeting, Sargsyan wished Tankian good luck, strength and energy to fulfill all this plans.
