Armenian foundation proposes donating laptops to schoolchildren in Karabakh
Fruitful Armenia Foundation has proposed a new project for school children in the Nagorno Karabakh Republic (NKR).
Under an agreement signed between NKR Prime Minister Ara Harutyunyan and Diaspora Armenian benefactor Eduardo Ernekian, the New Educational Strategy, a program aimed at providing laptops to elementary school children and their teachers, will be launched in several schools beginning the new academic year.
Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday, the foundation's chief executive, Anna Christina Shirinyan, said the project elaborated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology envisages the retraining of around 160 teachers as a first step.
"I would like to note that the computers have Armenian language keyboards and Armenian software, which is very important," she said, adding that the program will be initially implemented in the towns of Stepanakert and Shushi and later expand to other regions.
"The project has been implemented in 40 world countries, with around 2 million computers having being donated [to people]. Uruguay has benefited most from this project, receiving 400,000 computers," said Program Manager Sebastian Arias Duval.
He highly praised the initiative, considering it a major contribution to the development of modern education.
