Cross-stone commemorating Armenian Genocide victims set up in Kuban

A khachkar (cross-stone) commemorating the victims of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey, in 1915-1922, was set up in the Cossack village of Starokorsunskaya, Krasnodar region.

The Yerkramas newspaper, which is published by the Armenian community in Russia, reports that Bishop Movses Movsesyan held a consecration ceremony. Attending the ceremony were Head of the local administration Galina Komirnyaya, Ataman Nikolay Ostroverkhov and representatives of the Armenian community.

Khachatur Doktoryan, Chairman of the Armenian cultural center in Starokorsunskaya said that the Armenia-based sculpture Nerses Charokhyan had sculptured the cross-stone at his request.

The Armenian cultural center in Krasnodar helped in setting up the cross-stone.

"A million and a half innocent people suffered in 1915. It's a disastrous figure not only for the Armenians, but also for any nation," said Galina Komirnyaya.

Crimes against humanity, such as the Armenian Genocide, have no time limitation, said Ataman Nikolay Ostroverkhov. "Those tragic historical events are known to almost everyone…I wish all the best, first of all a peaceful sky, to the Armenian people," he said.
