Businessmen can join efforts to save Gndevank from destruction

The Armenian youth initiative No Silence is calling upon all the businessmen in the southern resort city of Jermuk to direct their efforts towards the renovation Gndevank Monastery.

The young activists are concerned that the ancient place of worship heading to southern Armenia is falling into disrepair, being left unattended for years.

The particularly call on the owners of mineral water plants and resort homes to join their efforts to rescue the monastery.

"Our history should be safeguarded against destruction, and our past should be protected from oblivion in our homeland. We still have time to preserve the past for the sake of the future," reads a statement by the activists.

Gndevank is a 10th-13th century Armenian monastery in the Vayots Dzor Province of Armenia, along the road to Jermuk.
The Monastery includes a four-apse domed church dates back to 936, with the ruins of a wonderful 10th century wall painting of the Virgin. The south of the complex is full of 13th-14th century khatchkars (cross-stones).
