Armenian blogger launches website to focus on repatriation

A well-known Armenian blogger, film-maker Tigran Paskevichyan has launched a website that mainly focuses on repatriation issues.

Speaking at the presentation of the website on Tuesday, Paskevichyan said that the State Archive and the Oriental Institute of Armenia’s National Academy of Science are greatly contributing to the creation of the website.

“We will try to find also other archives, such as photo and video archives, published books, etc.,” said he.

Further, Paskevichyan said that the website will by the end of December 2011 host an 80-90-minute-long documentary about repatriation once it is ready.

“My goal is to find out the problem of why people came [to Armenia], why they left, whether it is possible that they repatriate back…?” explained he.

Paskevichyan went on to say that financial standing and hunger has not always been the real reason for repatriation. By talking to people he has found out that some left because they were somehow offended from something.

“They come to the homeland: injustice, unlawfulness, violence, in short they get lost in all kinds of discomfort,” said he. “They leave the homeland only to get absorbed in strangeness. In both cases the people get lost.”

“I am looking for those lost, and especially those not lost,” he added.

Tigran Paskevichyan is the author of Armenia’s Lost Spring – a film dedicated to the post-election unrest in 2008.
