Well-known Armenian art critic dies

On Oct. 8, the well-known Armenian art critic, member of the Armenian Painters' Union Saro Sarukhanyan died at the age of 67.

Saro Sarukhanyan was born in 1944. In 1968, he graduated from Yerevan State University. In 1969-1984, S. Sarukhanyan was editor of the Arts Section of the Armenian Encyclopedia. In 1977-1981, he organized the first free exhibitions in the USSR.

S. Sarukhanyan is author of a number of research papers on arts, as well as of over 200 articles and TV programs.

In 2001-2009, S. Sarukhanyan was director of the Armenian Museum of Folk Arts. He also worked as expert at the Department for Preservation of Cultural Values and Culture Division of the Expert Bureau of Armenia.
