'50 years of space age: real and virtual sky studies' conference opens in Armenia's capital

On Nov. 22, the Armenian National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) hosted the opening ceremony of a CIS conference of young scientists.

Areg Mikaelyan, Leading Researcher at the Byurakan observatory, Co-Chairman of the Armenian Astronomical Society (ArAS) and Head of the Armenian virtual observatory, reported that the topic of the conference is "50 years of space age: real and virtual sky studies." ANAS President Radik Martirosyan, Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo office in Armenia Victor Krivopuskov, Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Kukhta, Co-President of the Eurasian Astronomical Society Nikolay Samus and ArAS Co-Chairman Areg Mikaelyan welcomed the conference.

Among the participants will be 50 students and young scientists from Armenia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as Russian and European lecturers, who will deliver reports.

Students will deliver reports on their post-graduate papers. Practical work and visits to the Byurakan observatory are on the conference agenda. The conference is being held in Russian and English. The Russian-Armenian Cooperation Foundation is sponsor of the conference.
