Armenian scientists will from now on have access to the world's online magazines.

The presentation of an Armenian virtual library program has been held in Yerevan.

The library stock consists of more than 3m articles and more than 8,000 magazines involved in the UN Research4Life program.

President of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Radik Martirosyan pointed out the importance of the Armenian virtual library because Armenian scientists cannot afford subscriptions to scientific journals.

"The Armenian virtual scientific library resolves the problem. The library will also facilitate the development online magazines, which are easier accessible and more interesting," Academician Martirosyan said.

Samvel Harutyunyan, Chairman of the State Committee for Science, said that 70 to 80 percent of the world's scientific literature will be available to Armenian scientists before 2015. Relevant agreements have been reached, he added.

The Armenian virtual library will also allow Armenian scientists to present their achievements to their foreign counterparts, Harutyunyan said.

US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern, who attended the presentation, pointed out that a scientific and technological cooperation memorandum was recently signed with Armenia. The document envisages development of cooperation with Armenia's Academy of Sciences and Ministry of Education and Science.
