Japanese scientists have calculated the diameter of the Sun.

According to experts from Japan’s national observatory, the Sun is 1 million, 392 thousand 20 kilometers in diameter.

The experts’ calculation efforts were assisted by the ring eclipse observed by residents of Asia and North America earlier this week, The Voice of Russia reported.

During the early and late phase of the eclipse the edges of the two discs overlap but the light from the Sun breaks through thereby making it possible to measure its exact parameters.

Until now, scientists were unable to measure the Sun’s diameter because of its high brightness.
