Armenia’s consulate in Aleppo stops accepting documents from Syrian Armenians

For already the 8th day Armenian consulate in Aleppo is not accepting documents from Syrian Armenians for getting Armenia’s citizenship, a representative from the Armenian community told Tert.am.
With the proposal of Diaspora Minister Hranush Hakobyan a decision was adopted on July 26 to ensure visa free entrance for ethnic Armenians of Syria and Lebanon to Armenia.
According to the acting order, a citizen of a country applies for getting Armenia’s citizenship and receives passport at Armenia’s Police’s Visa and Passport department.
It was also decided to grant passports at Armenia’s diplomatic representations abroad.
“The government’s decree enters into force in accordance with the law, from the next day of its official publication,” spokesperson for Armenia’s Foreign minister Tigran Balayan told Tert.am, asked why the documents are not being accepted.
Stemming from Tigran Balayan’s response, it means the decree has not entered into force.
Spokesman for the Armenian PM Harutyun Berberyan was not available for the comment.
One of the Syrian-Armenians told Tert.am he has received a visa not on the border but in Aleppo, paying 40 US dollars (for four months).
