US-Armenian tycoon, Kirk Kerkorian, ranks 142nd in Forbes 400
US Armenian casino tycoon Kirk Kirkorian is 142nd richest man in the Forbes 400 ranking.
In its comments about the big businessman, the magazine refers to a recently settled dispute with a former frined, Edward Michael Davis which ended a 6-months lawsuit over a fraud case.
“Casino tycoon Kirk Kerkorian celebrated his 95th birthday in June in style with a flash mob set up by his fiancée, Joan Dangerfield, the widow of comedian Rodney Dangerfield. A month earlier, Kerkorian and his former friend, Edward Michael Davis, settled their dispute for undisclosed terms, ending a 6-month trial in which Kerkorian sued Davis for fraud after his energy company Delta Petroleum Corp. went belly up and filed for bankruptcy. The eighth grade dropout, ex- boxer and World War II fighter pilot trainer started his career in Las Vegas with a land purchase in 1962. He opened the original MGM hotel and casino after picking up the movie studio in 1969. Kerkorian stepped down as its chairman in 2011 to become the first director emeritus, and has since sold 40 million shares worth about $750 million. His MGM stake, once much bigger and worth $11 billion, is now worth less than $1 billion. These days Kerkorian captains Tracinda, his privately owned investment firm, and the Lincy Foundation, originally founded to aid victims of the 1989 Armenian earthquake; both organizations are named after his two daughters, Tracy and Linda. Last year, Kerkorian transferred $200 million in assets from the Lincy Foundation to UCLA to create the Dream Fund, a philanthropic vehicle devoted to the support of medical research and academic programs at UCLA,” says the magazine.
The founder of Miscrosoft, Bill Gates, tops the ranking with a fortune of $66 billion. Warren Buffett, the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc, comes next, with an estimated fortune of $46 billion. Oracle Corp CEO Larry Ellison is the last in the top three list. His fortune is estimated at $31 billion.
