Cardiovascular disease mortality down in Armenia

Deaths caused by cardiovascular diseases have reduced by 6% in Armenia in the recent years, according to a cardiologist.


At a news conference on Tuesday, Armen Astvatsatryan, a dean at the European Regional Education Academy, said a sharp increase in such diseases is linked to whether conditions.


“There’s no drop in the disease rate, but the treatment methods have turned better. The fundamentals of evidence-based medicine in cardiology have been introduced in Armenia, contributing to a better diagnosis and treatment,” he said, pointing out to a positive dynamics in the disease statistics.


The specialist noted that cigarette addiction is the most frequent cause of cardiovascular disorder in Armenia, with hypertonic diseases, diabetes and less movement being the next major contributory factors.


He further said that more young people are nowadays diagnosed with heart diseases. “I was recently talking to a 26-year-old young man who was diagnosed with heavy infarction. Twenty years ago, infarction in a 20-year-old man would cause a surprise but today the disease is observed in young women,” he added.
