Oncology Center of Excellence to be accessible to pubic
The Oncology Center of Excellence to be built in Yerevan will ensure maximum accessibility to the public, Hayk Bakrjyan, a member of the Armenian National Competitiveness Foundation’s Trusteeship Board, said at the institution’s foundation laying ceremony today.
The event was attended by President Serzh Sargsyan, Minister of Health Derenik Dumanyan, Minister of Economy Tigran Davtyan and other high-ranking officials.
Bakrjyan told reporters that the Center will be the only one in the region to use up-to-date technologies for producing modern medicines.
“We will manage to use the Center’s modern equipment for manufacturing new medicines. The equipment will be the latest; they are at the peak everywhere,” he said.
Emphasizing the Center’s significance, Ara Darzin, another member of the Trusteeship Board, said the past decades’ great success in cancer treatment is largely due to radiation treatment methods.
“The Center will help make an early diagnosis and determine the type of tumor in an accurate manner. That will make the treatment more precise and appropriate,” he said, adding that the Center will also engage in diagnosing diseases other than cancer.
Speaking further, the minister of health characterized the tumor diseases as a serious challenge which strike humans irrespective of social origin or the level of the country’s development.
“These diseases have increased significantly in our country, the main reasons being the inadequate technical equipment, the shortage of specialists etc. Such super-modern technologies have promoted achievements worldwide, but our country had not yet managed to introduce them. Today, we are launching an up-to-date program which will be a great investment in terms of treatment,” he said.
The Center’s goal is to ensure a proper diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases in Armenia. It will offer high quality radio-isotopic, radiological and laboratory diagnoses, as well as in-patient and out-patient surgical services and chemotherapy.
