Rostelecom to launch its brand in Armenia
Russia’s biggest telecommunications operator, Rostelecom, is going to launch services on the Armenian market.
The company will collaborate with its affiliate in Armenia, GNC Alpha, which is a leading venture in the country’s telecommunication sector.
A press conference with the Russian representatives will be held on Yerevan on Tuesday to herald the beginning of the company’s services. Later in the day, the city of Abovyan will host the opening of Rostelecom’s first ever trading and services center in Armenia.
According to a press release by the company, the retail services in the first round of the project will include the delivery of landline and mobile telecommunication services for natural persons. The interactive TV service will be launched later.
The Russian company is entering the Armenian market as a rival of uCom, a broadband internet and digital TV operator that offers a new generation fiber-optic network.
“Beginning December 2012, our company’s telecommunication brand Rostelecom will apply to the company's services sold in Armenia,” said the CEO of GNC Alpha, Hayk Farmazyan. “The first trading hall of communication services has opened in the city of Abovyan, which is home to the company’s general headquarters. Five more trading halls will open until the end of this year, with four others expected to add to them in January,” he said.
Rostelecom President Alexander Provotorov added that their company is a sole leader on the Russian internet market today, a fact that makes its entrance to the Armenian market significant.
“It is noteworthy that Armenia is the first country after Russia to launch the services of Rostelecom,” he said.
GNC Alfa’s network is fully based on the optical-fiber cables that cover 80% of the country’s territory. It is connected with the main regional network and the biggest chains of traffic transmission, as well as the international communication channels of Iran and Georgia.
