Ways to overcome post-holiday stress – psychologist's advice

Psychologist Samvel Khudoyan referring today to the post-holiday stress said after New Year holidays people on one hand are relaxing on the other are falling in stress. To overcome it, the psychologist gave concrete advises.

 

“The best way is eating bananas, pomegranate, chocolate, as well as walking, swimming, sports,” he said.

 

The specialist said these though are not crisis stresses that may cause psychological problems.

 

“The number of divorces, conflicts raises during this period as the year is being summed up and a general tension dominates. In general, after big fun, a feeling of emptiness appears. Women usually suffer greater stress,” he said.

 

The psychologist stressed that the 7 days of rest also creates stress. According to him, the holidays should last 3-4 days.

 

Ethnographer Ruzan Tsaturyan, asked to explain why in Armenia the holidays are being marked for so long and with so full tables, said till 20th century January 1 was not marked in Armenia. “The Soviet Union made the holiday common by providing vacations, conducting festive events, giving awards. As to the tables, it is more agreed with the poverty of our public,” she said.

 

“On these days people are trying to demonstrate their achievements during the year. But the values are not static, they are changeable. If previously it was celebrated more homogeneously during the recent years the scenario varies, some people prefer celebrating New Year in other countries,” she said.

 

Psychologist Samvel Khudoyan said, the full tables are not much connected with the mentality as in European countries as well the New Year is being celebrated with full tables.
