Sony announces Xperia ZR smartphone
JAPANESE PHONE MAKER Sony has started its week off with a bang by announcing the waterproof Xperia ZR smartphone, http://www.theinquirer.net reports.
The Sony Xperia ZR is a souped-up version of the firm's flagship Sony Xperia Z smartphone, boasting both IP55 and IP58 certification. This means that the phone can handle being submerged in water up to 1.5 metres deep for up to 30 minutes and is able to shoot HD video while underwater.
The handset features the same 13MP camera as its Xperia Z sibling, complete with Sony's Exmor RS sensor and high dynamic range (HDR) imaging. Sony has downsized the screen to 4.6in, although it still features 720x1290 resolution and Sony's Mobile Bravia technology.
Other specifications include Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system skinned with Sony's custom user interface, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 8GB of internal storage expandable to 32GB. Connectivity will include 4G LTE, NFC and DLNA compatibility, and the phone will be available in black, silver, pink and blue.
