Google Glass app that can reveal emotions

A new app for Google Glass claims to be able to tell you exactly how someone is feeling, the Daily Mail reported.


Called Emotient, is can tell whether a person is happy, sad angry or confused - and can monitor an entire room of people at once.


The firm says the technology could even be used by advertisers to gauge reactions to their products.


The Sentiment Analysis prototype application, is set to be made available to anyone with Google's Glass.


“Emotient’s Sentiment Analysis Glassware demonstrates our goal to emotion-enable any manner of device and build the next layer of automatic sensors,' said Ken Denman, CEO, Emotient.

"It’s a breakthrough technology that allows companies to aggregate customer sentiment by processing facial expressions anonymously.


“We believe there is broad applicability for this service to improve the customer experience, particularly in retail.”


The Emotient software processes facial expressions and provides an aggregate emotional read-out, measuring overall sentiment (positive, negative or neutral); primary emotions (joy, surprise, sadness, fear, disgust, contempt and anger); and advanced emotions (frustration and confusion).


The Emotient software detects and processes anonymous facial expressions of individuals and groups that the Glass wearer sees to determine an aggregate sentiment read-out; it does not store video or images.


“Emotient foresees that its Sentiment Analysis Glassware could be used by retailers to improve the understanding of aggregate customer sentiment, which may be particularly useful in measuring store performance, and therefore managing product and advertising/promotions, as well as customer satisfaction.”


The company was founded by a team of six PhDs from the University of California, San Diego, who are the foremost experts in applying machine learning, computer vision and cognitive science to facial behavioral analysis.
