Transiting Iranian gas through Armenia requires investments – ambassador

Supplying Iranian gas to other countries via Armenia as a transit country requires infrastructures and, therefore, huge investments, Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mohammad Raiesi told reporters on Friday.

“We have good relations with Russia and can establish gas cooperation,” he said.

As to whether official Yerevan is willing for cooperation, Mr Raiesi said that transportation of energy carriers requires infrastructures and Armenia’s government needs time. If necessary pipelines are laid, transsit through Armenia will not encounter problems.

As to his statements on Iran’s readiness to supply gas to Armenia at a lower price than Russia does, the diplomat said:

“Armenia’s minister of energy is to visit Iran. The issue may be discussed there. But we stated our willingness to cooperate with Iran in all areas.”

With respect to his meeting with the inventor of the Akhtamar device Vahan Hamazaspyan, Mr Raiesi expressed his regret that some media outlets misrepresented that meeting.

“Mr Hamazaspyan’s work is praiseworthy. He invited me to the center for us to discuss possible areas of cooperation. Much is being done in Iran in solar energy generation.”
