Armenian church in Der ez-Zor substantially damaged
The Armenian Genocide Memorial Church of Deir ez-Zor blown up by Islamic State’s terrorists was substantially damaged.
The i24news.tv website reports that the dome of the church, with a cross atop, has remained standing. The terrorists did not allow anyone to take pictures of the destroyed church.
After the Islamic State occupied the territory, they laid mines round the church and destroyed it. The sound of the explosion was heard in different parts of Deir ez-Zor.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reports that the terrorists go on desecrating the holy places and tombs in Syria.
The remains of numerous Armenians who died in Deir ez-Zor deserts during the Armenian Genocide are kept in the memorial complex of the church, which was built in 1991. Moreover, numerous records of the Armenian Genocide are kept in the Armenian Genocide museum.
Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian and Chief of the Armenian Presidential Staff Vigen Sargsyan strongly condemned the act of barbarism against the Armenian Genocide Memorial Church of Deir ez-Zor.
