Apple to hold iPad event on Oct 16

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) will hold an iPad event scheduled for October 16, Benzinga.com reports, citing Re/Code.

According to NDTV Apple will unveil a new iPad Air 2 with gold color variant, similar to the iPhone 5s handset. The iPad may also include a Touch ID fingerprint sensor along with improved speaker grills. A new Apple A8X processor along with 2GB of RAM may also be present in the new device, according to the blog.

BGR reports that Apple's October 16 won't be as “hype-fueled” as the iPhone 6 launch, as Apple will only unveil a next-generation iPad Air. BGR notes that the new iPad will integrate the Touch ID fingerprint scanning system present in iPhones. A next-next generation “Retina iPad mini” and a “iPad Pro” tablet won't be unveiled until 2015, BGR further speculates.

According to Engadget, Apple's event is taking place in the company's Town Hall auditorium, making the event a “smaller affair than last month's spectacle.” The blog offers no specific predictions but does not that there is a chance Apple will also introduce new options on the iMac side along with OS X, Yosemite and Apple Pay “fanfare.”
